The modest casitas were built utilizing traditional local construction techniques — a concrete structural frame infilled with CMU and decorative screen blocks.
Located in a grove of fruit trees just north of San Juan del Sur on Nicaragua’s southwest coast.
The client wanted to build a community of modest short-term rental units for surfers and vacationers in a popular surf destination.
The modest structures are partially elevated above the landscape and designed with the surfer in mind — each casita features an oversized bench that runs that length of the interior and can be used for storage or additional sleeping quarters; central bathroom core dividing the living and sleeping quarters; and a porch and hammock space for outdoor afternoon naps.
