Site

The client had recently purchased a flat in the “lamplighter”, a 1960 concrete apartment tower in Seattle’s Capitol Hill neighborhood.

Program

The unit was designed as a 2-bed, 2-bath with very little room for storage. The client desired a new layout that better aligned with his living patterns.

Design

The flat was reconfigured to convert one of the bathrooms into a laundry room, and one of the bedrooms into an office with ample room for storing and working on the owner’s bikes. The existing master bath was completely redesigned, while maintaining the fixture locations due to the structural concrete floors. The previously tight and close-off kitchen was doubled in size and partially opened up to the living area. The more generous kitchen extends out to include an existing bay window. This sunny counter is where the owner drinks his morning coffee while enjoying views of the space needle and Puget Sound.
